Privacy policy
Last updated: 17.08.2026
This page explains what personal data HoppHome processes, why, and how you can control it. We process data under the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP), and under the GDPR where it applies to visitors from the EU/EEA.
1. Who is responsible
The controller for the data processing described here is HoppHome, Zürich, Switzerland. For any question about this policy or about your data, contact us at:
Email: hoppswisscontact@gmail.com
2. What we process
HoppHome is designed so that searching requires no account and no personal data. What we do process falls into five groups:
- Server and log data
- Every request leaves a technical trace: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referrer and browser identification. We need it to operate the service securely and to detect abuse. Logs are kept short-term and are not used to profile you.
- Favorites on your device
- Saved properties are stored in your browser's local storage, on your device. They never reach our servers, and clearing your browser data removes them.
- Account data (owners only)
- If you sign in to publish or manage a listing, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We never receive your password. A session cookie keeps you signed in.
- Listings, requests and inquiries
- Content you submit — a listing with its address and contact details, a wanted ad, or an inquiry about a property. Listings and wanted ads are published deliberately and therefore public. An inquiry is passed to the advertiser concerned, because that is its purpose.
- Usage statistics for listings
- For listings published on HoppHome we count impressions, detail views, contact clicks and similar events so the advertiser can see how their listing performs. These counts are aggregated and not used to build a profile of you.
3. Advertising and cookies
HoppHome is financed by advertising and uses Google AdSense, a service of Google Ireland Limited. To deliver, measure and — depending on your settings — personalise ads, Google may set cookies or read device identifiers, and may process your IP address and your interaction with the ad slot.
Google acts as an independent controller for this processing. What Google collects and how it is used is described in Google's own privacy information; we have no access to the individual data behind an ad impression.
We keep advertising strictly separate from content: every ad slot is labelled, and no advertiser can buy a position in the search results.
- Manage or switch off ad personalisation at Google: myadcenter.google.com ↗
- Opt out of personalised advertising industry-wide: youronlinechoices.com ↗
4. Third parties involved
Besides advertising, these providers are involved in operating the site. Each receives only what its function requires:
- Google Ireland Limited
- AdSense advertising and sign-in via Google OAuth.
- Flatfox AG
- Source of aggregated listings. Cover images load directly from flatfox.ch, so your browser contacts Flatfox when a listing is displayed. Clicking an aggregated listing takes you to flatfox.ch, where Flatfox's own privacy policy applies.
- Resend
- Delivery of transactional email such as inquiry notifications.
- Our hosting provider
- Operation of the servers and databases on which HoppHome runs.
5. How long we keep data
Log data is kept short-term for security purposes. Listings, wanted ads and account data stay for as long as you use them, and are deleted when you delete the entry or your account. Inquiries remain with the advertiser they were sent to. Where a legal retention period applies, it takes precedence.
6. Your rights
Under the revFADP you may, at any time and free of charge:
- request information about the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted, or its processing restricted;
- receive your data in a machine-readable format, or have it transferred;
- object to a specific processing operation, including advertising-related processing.
One email to the address above is enough. If you disagree with how we handle your request, you can contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) in Bern.
7. Data outside Switzerland
Some of the providers above process data abroad, including in the EU and the United States. Such transfers take place on the basis of the safeguards provided for in data protection law — an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.
8. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), access to production data is restricted to the people who need it, and we do not store passwords because sign-in runs through Google. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data as data we would want handled carefully ourselves.
9. Changes to this policy
We update this page when the service changes — for example when a data source or a provider is added. The date at the top always shows the current version.
